Kool-aid Playdough

I've been teaching my 15-month old a new color every week; this week it's RED! We've been making, tasting, smelling, seeing, hearing, touching all things red and I'm about to go red crazy! This playdough was a fun craft that he loved playing with. I got the recipe from my mom. She was a preschool teacher for over 10 years so she always had some kind of craft she'd bring home for us to do as well. This kool-aid playdough was one of my favorites. I have never purchased the regular playdough because this stuff is much better. It's so soft, safe, easy to make, cheap, last forever and it smells pretty good too.

Ingredients
  • 2-1/2 c. flour + flour for kneading
  • 1/2 c. salt
  • 2 packets of kool-aid
  • 2 cups of boiling water
  • 3 T. vegetable oil

Kool-aid Playdough

Step 1.) In a large bowl add 2-1/2 cups of flour

Step 2.) Add in 1/2 cup of salt

Step 3.) Add in 2 packets of kool-aid

Step 4.) Mix well to combine ingredients

Step 5.) In a seperate, microwave safe bowl add 2 cups of water and place in the microwave for 10 minutes or until it starts to boil.

Step 6.) **My sons favorite part!*** Carefully add the hot water to the dry mixture. Presto color magic!!!

Step 7.) Add in 3 T. of vegetable oil

Step 8.) Stir with a spoon until dough begins to form.

Step 9.) Now it's time to get your hands REAL dirty. Dig in and start kneading and flipping that dough. (If the dough is too hot to touch let it cool off a bit) Sit out a lil cup of flour because you're going to need to keep adding in a little flour while kneading it to keep it from sticking to your hands.

Step 10) It will be real sticky until you work in enough flour. Knead the dough in your hands and simply play with it while adding flour until a soft, nonsticky ball forms. Trust me, it will eventually form

You now have kool-aid playdough and your child now have the coolest parent on the planet!!! Store in a ziplock bag. The playdough will be a tad oily the first couple of times you play with.
