Watermelon Jolly Rancher Jello Shots

Watermelon Jolly Rancher Jello Shots

Ahhhhh jello shots!!! What could be more fun than mixing the nostalgic memories of childhood with the wild & crazy memories of those college frat parties? I love jello shots but I'm just now starting to experiment with the gazillion different flavors and wow.....I think I'm becoming a serious jello shot addict. What is it about these things that are so doggone good??? I can't stop making them and I'm sure my husband is probably wondering what the crap is going on with me.

Right now I'm all about the pina colada jello shots (which I'll be posting that recipe soon) but as per my fabulous readers request, here is a great recipe for Watermelon Jolly Rancher Jello Shots. I think these would be great to serve at a summertime BBQ.

This particular flavor just reminds me so much of summer. It has that sweet, fresh watermelony taste with a hint of tart green apple. I'll be stashing this recipe away to serve at my annual "Bringing in the Summer Cookout". If I can get my grandmother to do a jello shot...yall! LMAO
Oh but first let me thank Thomas T. (a fellow twitterer) for sending me this recipe. I had tried several watermelon jolly rancher recipes online using various juices and vodka and I thought they tasted just plain weird! Thomas sent me this Watermelon Jolly Rancher recipe (the same one he uses in his bar) and saved the day!!! Thank you Thomas!!! MUAHHHH!!

While we are on the subject of Jolly Ranchers which is your favorite Jolly Rancher flavor??

Ingredients:
1 3oz box of watermelon jello
1 c. of boiling water
1 c. cold Dekuyper Sour Apple Pucker Schnapps

*Note* These can be quite sweet & tart so if you prefer a more mellow shot use 1/2 c. of sour apple schnapps & 1/2 of vodka.

Step 1.) Bring 1 cup of water to a boil in the microwave. I like to use the big liquid measuring cups with the spout because they make mixing & pouring the jello mixutre into the shot glasses super easy.

Step 2.) Add the watermelon jello to the boiling water and stir until completely dissolved.

Step 3.) In a separate cup, add 1 c. of sour apple schnapps.

Step 4.) Place both cups into the freezer for about 10 minutes. You want the sour apple schnapps to be cool and the jello mixture to be only slightly warm. If you add the alcohol to the boiling jello mixture it will kill the taste of the alcohol and your jello shots will taste like...well..just jello. BOOOOO!!!

Step 5.) When both liquids are ready, combine the cool sour apple schnapps with the warm jello mixture & stir to combine.

Step 6.) Pour the mixture into individual shot glasses. I LOVE the 1 oz. plastic souffle cups with the lids. You can get them at restaurant or party supply stores. The lids make for super easy stacking in the refrigerator and the jello comes out easy. Not to mention they are portable and so darn cute!

Step 7.) Refrigerate for 4-6 hours or until firmly set.

How to Eat A Jello Shot
Using Your Mouth Only- Well...the original way (and the way men think is sexier according to Cosmo, yes I read that trash) is to put half the jello shot glass into your mouth, loosen the jello with your tongue and then suck the jello out. (it's not as easy as it sounds)
Toothpicks & Fingers- Most people prefer to use a toothpick or their fingers to loosen the jello from the glass and then just pop it into their mouth.
Hot Water- Often when "gourmet" jello shots are being served at a more reserved affair the host will dip the shot glasses in warm water prior to serving them so that the jello automatically releases from the glass.
