Barbecue sauce recipe - How to make barbecue sauce

Makes about 625ml

Ingredients

250ml (1 cup) passata (tomato pasta sauce)
125ml (1/2 cup) treacle
80ml (1/3 cup) maple syrup
60ml (1/4 cup) tomato sauce
60ml (1/4 cup) white wine vinegar
2 tbs Worcestershire sauce
1 tbs Dijon mustard
1 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp sweet paprika

Method

Place the passata, treacle, maple syrup, tomato sauce, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder and paprika in a medium saucepan. Bring to the boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 12 minutes or until the sauce thickens. Taste and season with salt and pepper. Set aside for 20 minutes to cool slightly.

Pour the sauce into sterilised airtight bottles. Place in the fridge until required.

Notes
This recipe can be made up to 2 weeks ahead. Store in the fridge.
