saturday morning breakfasts.

I'm a creature of habit. Many of my habits are so deeply rooted I don't even notice them. Still others are habits and routines to look forward to, that help me mark the time, and provide that small incentive to get through each work week. My Saturday morning breakfast is one of these. Those who've spent many a Saturday by my side know it well - farmers' market shopping followed by coffee and pain au chocolat. I'm the stubbornest of mules when it comes to this - I must have my chocolate croissant, no substitutions, no excuses, every Saturday. Barring vacations and unforeseen interruptions, this has been the case for many years. I loathe to think of all the butter I've consumed over that time, but the quiet moment with hot coffee, warm croissant in hand, seems more than worth it.

On a different note, my visit to the market today packed quite the payoff - brand new courgettes, the highlight, to be explored in all ways this month. And best of all, I'll be selling bread this afternoon for The Flour Station, my much loved local bakery, at the Fair in the Square in Highgate. Behind the scenes access plus a staff discount? More pain au chocolat, here I come.
