We all know that spaghetti, like other pastas, is an Italian cuisine. But Filipinos have also adapted the cooking of spaghetti and we also have our own way of preparing it. As a matter of fact, it is considered as one of the important Filipino recipes cooked during special occasions especially during birthdays. It is believed that eating spaghetti during your birthday can prolong your life due to the long pasta strands.

Spaghetti might be considered as a main dish for other countries. But here in Philippines, it is mostly regarded as a snack since rice is our staple food.

Preparing Filipino spaghetti is simple. Just prepare the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup condensed milk
  • ¾ cup water
  • 850g grated cheese
  • Cooking oil
  • Soy sauce
  • Fish sauce

The first thing that you need to do is to cook the pasta. Here is how you should do it:

2) Add the pasta and season it with 2 tbsp of cooking oil and 1 tsp of salt.
3) After five minutes, drain the water and put the pasta in a separate container.

The one that gives spaghetti a Filipino taste is the sauce.

1) Marinate the ground beef in soy sauce and black pepper for 15 minutes.
2) In a large sauce pan, sautee the minced garlic until golden brown.
3) Add the beef. Sautee until oil is produced.
4) Add the chopped onion.
5) Add two tbsp of fish sauce.
6) Add ¾ cup of water to soften the meat.
7) Pour the spaghetti sauce and the condensed milk.

Once the sauce is ready, you can already mix it with the pasta together with the grated cheese. Top your delicious spaghetti with some grated cheese.
