Reviewed: Bizcochos and AlfajoresComing to our second last bakery of our Top 5 Latin American Bakeries, we are back to the west end of the city reviewing Edgar's place.
Argentinian born Edgar is the owner and baker, along with his wife, of this cute and tiny Latin store in south Etobicoke. Edgar’s is both a convenience store filled with Latin goods as well as a bakery (especially if you make it there early enough). Edgar and his lovely wife spend their weekends baking in the kitchen everything from Argentinian Bizcochos, Breads and Alfajores, to Salvadorean Pupusas and even Colombian Empanadas. There is pretty much nothing in the Latin world of baked goods that Edgar will not try in his kitchen.
In my opinion, Edgar's bizcochos are the best treat you can try in this bakery. His use of arequipe (aka dulce de leche) as the filling, letting it rest in the centre just right, no too moist or dry, is fantastic. The pastry in itself is flaky and fluffy and not overpowering, a great balance to the sweetness found inside this goodie treat.
Alfajores are another great addition to Edgar's assortment of Latin findings. Although Edgar's alfajores are really up to par with some of the best bakeries, Bagel Flame's still remains my favourite.
Until our next Latin Bakery Foodies!
Buen Provecho,
