Janmastami Special - Sabudana ni Khichdi

Janmastami is the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna and is celebrated all over India. It is a celebration of eighth avtar of Lord Vishnu.


This religious festival is celebrated on astami of krishna paksh of shravan month according to the Hindu calender with great devotion and zeal. It is also known as Gokulashtami and Krishnaasthami.


Sabudana ni khichdi is very well known farali dish. Here it's an honest try to make it easy and quick. This recipe is full of starch.


Soaking time - 4 to 5 hours

Cooking time - 5 minutes
Serves - 4 persons


Ingredients to make Sabudana ni Khichdi: 


250 grams sabudana - sago 
(Washed and soaked for 4 - 5 hours.)
150 grams potatoes - boiled
1 table spoon powder sugar
2 table spoon oil
Salt to taste - sindhav salt
1 table spoon red chilly powder
1 table spoon lemon juice
1 - 2 green chilly crushed


For garnishing:


Pomegranate seeds
chopped coriander
Fried potato chips - Farali chevdo 
Roughly crushed masala peanuts


Method to make Sabudana ni Khichdi: 

  • Wash and soak sabudana for 4 to 5 hours in normal water.

  • Cook them on steam. Let it Luke warm at room temperature.

  • Cut potatoes and mix all the ingredients together. Mix properly.

  • Garnish it with Pomegranate seeds, chopped coriander, Fried potato chips - Farali chevdo, Roughly crushed masala peanuts.

  • Hot and tempting Sabudana ni Khichdi is ready to serve.

Tips:
  • If you are in hurry soak sabudana in Luke warm water. It will take 1 hour to soak. But stir occasionally on both the method.
