Healthy Cake Icing Recipes
Ingredients:
1 cup Greek Yogurt: When it comes to healthy cake icing recipes, don't be scared off by the ones you might not be familiar with. Greek yogurt isn't quite as sweet, and it has a slightly thicker texture, but it's still very creamy. Keep this in mind as you're getting ready to make your icing.
½ cup Powdered Sugar: Like cornstarch, you're going to want to grab your friend the sifter/sieve in order to keep the sugar from clumping. This will also make it a lot easier to get the most out of your sugar, since you won't have to add more and more to ensure an even flavoring. You might want to get a helper to gently shake the sugar into the mixture while you're stirring.
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract: This is fairly simple to use. You'll need a very small amount, and you can use imitation if you need to. Keep in mind that you can also add other ingredients to your healthy cake icing recipes. If you want, you can add a little bit of pureed strawberries to add a little bit of a fruity taste, or you can add a tiny bit of chocolate syrup.
And, of course, don't forget that you can stick to just adding fruit or the like as a topping. The best thing to remember about making icing is that you want it to spread nicely, but hold together. If you need to add a little bit more thickness to it, you can add cornstarch. However, you'll want to wait until it has set in the refridgerator for thirty minutes.
After you have everything ready for your recipe, go ahead and mix the yogurt and the extract first. This will give you a little extra time to mix together the sugar and to help keep it from clumping like fine powders are prone to.
From there, you will need to let it set in the refridgerator for about thirty minutes, to maybe a little more. Make sure to keep an eye on it, but don't disturb the frosting until at least half an hour has passed. Keep this in mind.
If it still has not thickened up, grab your sieve again and go ahead and add a teaspoon of cornstarch at a time until it thickens a little and then stick it back in the fridge. It might take a few times to get the recipe perfect—but you have to take into account that the weather, or humidity might also affect it. This is just one of the many great healthy cake icing recipes.
