Fried Rice: One of the Favorite Filipino Recipes for Breakfast

Here in the Philippines, leftover steamed rice at night is never wasted. It can be prepared as fried rice (sinangag in Filipino) for tomorrow’s breakfast. Though steaming rice is the usual way of preparing rice in our country, frying rice is prepared by some Filipino families for breakfast.

Lots of Filipino recipes regarding fried rice are available. However, the most favorite and delicious fried rice is the Garlic Fried rice. Some of you might be scared of garlic. I myself is not a fan of garlic. But believe me when I say that garlic fried rice is one of the Filipino recipes that make garlic good to taste.

To prepare garlic fried rice, here are the ingredients that you need:
  •          Six cups of (leftover) steamed rice
  •          5 cups of crushed and minced garlic
  •          2 tsp of salt to taste
  •          3 tbsp cooking oil
Now here’s the cooking procedure:

1) Mix rice and salt well in a big bowl.

2) Heat the big frying pan then pour the cooking oil.

3) Once the oil gets hot enough, sauté the garlic until golden brown and texture is crispy

4) Add half of the rice and mix well with the garlic while frying. (Note: This is ideal of your cooking large quantity of rice like in the example. However, if you’re preparing less than 4 cups of rice, then you may put all the rice at once if your pan is big enough).

5) Add the remaining rice and fry for another five minutes.

5. You many now remove the rice from the pan and put it in a serving plate. Garnish your fried rice with fried garlic on top.

Enjoy your breakfast now with garlic fried rice.

Tip: It is best served with fried salted fish, longaniza, chorizo, or sunny side up eggs.
